Questions

Rainwater Catchment FAQ

Is rainwater harvesting allowed in New Mexico?

Yes. New Mexico allows homeowners to collect rainwater from their roofs for use on their own property, such as landscape watering.

How much water can my roof catch?

More than most people expect. Roughly 0.6 gallons per square foot of roof for every inch of rain, minus some losses. We size storage to your roof and your plants.

Can rainwater run my drip irrigation?

Yes. With a filter and usually a small pump, a cistern can supply drip lines for gardens and trees.

What happens when the tank is full?

Overflow is piped to a planted basin, swale or drain, so it waters plants instead of pooling by the house.
